Week Six - Addiction Must Fall
Reminder: Watch this video the week of Jun 17 - Jun 23

This week's giant is a "biggie"...the giant of addiction. But guard your heart against two things as you approach this session. First of all, don't think "this giant is just too strong"; remember, you are not fighting any of these giants in your strength, but God's! Also, don't write this session off by thinking, "This session isn't for me, I'm not an addict". You may find yourself surprised as we go through this week's session with Louie...addictions come in all shapes and sizes, and are often subtle and sneaky. Regardless of where you are in your thinking, know this, the giant of addiction must fall!

Scripture of the Week

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.
~ Philippians 2:13

Discussion / Journaling Questions

We sincerely believe this six-week online study will encourage and refresh you in deep and meaningful ways as you discover fresh insights into God's provision for you in every battle you will face. Let us encourage you, after watching each weeks' video teaching segment (and reading the corollary readings in the book and study guide if you've purchased those); to review the discussion/journaling questions we provide below. If you're doing this study "solo", let these prompt you in your prayer time, as you journal, or simply to ponder during your study time. If you are in a group setting for this study (face-to-face with others, or via social media or online tools); you may wish to discuss these with others in your "group".

Questions to ponder, journal, or discuss with others enjoying this study with you:

  1. When you stop to consider it, all addictions are "illogical". Why do you think we pursue things (or stay in relationships) that we know are destructive to our souls, and often our bodies and minds?
  2. Someone has pointed out that all addictions begin with idolatry (violating the first Commandment from Exodus 20:3). How does our personal selfishness of addiction violate this commandment?
  3. How can accountability with fellow believers be used to help you overcome addictive behavior in your life? Do you have such a group or individual that you can be honest and vulnerable with?
  4. How does personal pride continue to trap us in our addictions?
  5. Read 2 Corinthians 12:7(b)-10; how does our weakness work to our benefit in God’s economy?
